2 June 07 · Remaking old maps pt.3

In my last post I looked at the reasons why remakes are a good idea. In this post I'm going to go through the negative side of remakes.

First I want to make it clear that if someone doesn't want a map remake made that is the end of the argument. It doesn't matter what the reason is; good reason or not. They could choose that they don't want people making remakes because they believe evil space monkeys will use it as a training simulation for a great invasion. It's their work, it's their choice. No explanations needed.

So having said that: these are the negatives as I see them. None of these really got mentioned on the forum thread which is why I want to go through them now. I personally don't think these outweigh the good points, and some of these are just facts of life.

I'm sure there's more reasons than that to not allow remakes, but they're the main ones for me. Still for the most part I don't think they are all that bad. Maybe with a bigger community the problems would be far worse, but with the size of Urban Terror they don't seem to play out much.

In the end it's all about the people who play Urban Terror, and if they want to remake and play an old map, then I personally don't see any point in stopping them.

i would like to see some of the old 2.6 maps re-created for 4.0. maps like metro, or park avenue or the original streets only with a ctf version..if you remember it was only a ffa map…great fun though….Myself and others like the more CITY looking maps, with high buildings, ladders and sewers to get around…makes the game seem more real….let me know..thanks and keep up the good work, tony
