10 January 07 · Village Dropped
Yes you heard right. Village. The last map to survive from the very first day of urban terror is getting dropped from the next release.
I've never been entirely happy with village2. It gave up good TS gameplay for some average ctf and bomb mode play. Not exactly the greatest of trades I could have wished for. The map also had the problem of being too open, and the lack of tactical features made it dull to play.
All of those deficiencies could be fixed with a rebuild, but that's not something I've had the time too do recently. I've been waiting for a couple of years for the villageish map, Austria to finally get released. I'd really like to see how the community responds to Austria, and 4.0 before committing to the kind of work village would take.
But, if 4.0 does turn into the kind of release we all want it to be (and by all appearances it's going to be great) then I'll try and find time to get it done for a later release.

I like village. It’s a good map. But in its current state it’s not a great map and good simply isn’t good enough for me. I want to make and release great maps.
So when I’ve improved it to a level I’m happy with I’ll release it. But yeah, that means that it will have to miss 4.0.

Nice to see you posting again. :)
By the looks of 4.0, i may have to have a little search for my Q3 CD and drag my ass away from WoW for a few hours.

Fortunately you wont need a Quake3 CD at all since 4.0 will be available standalone. Yay for id and open source.
